Privacy Policy - 9K Volume
Last Updated: April 27, 2026
1. Overview
9K Volume is a Chrome extension that adjusts tab audio with local Web Audio processing. This policy explains what the extension accesses, what it stores, and what it does not collect.
Core principle: audio processing happens locally in your browser. We do not collect, sell, or transmit your personal data or your tab audio to external servers.
2. Permissions We Use
- tabCapture: Captures audio from the current tab so the extension can apply volume, EQ, balance, and spatial processing.
- activeTab: Lets the extension act on the tab you intentionally open the extension on.
- storage: Saves your extension settings locally in your browser profile.
- offscreen: Runs the audio engine in an offscreen document while processing is active.
- alarms: Used to periodically verify that the local audio engine is still responding when processing is active.
Important: the extension processes tab audio in real time, but it does not record it, upload it, or send it to any analytics or cloud service.
3. Data We Store
The extension stores settings locally with chrome.storage.local. Examples include:
- Volume level and on/off state
- Theme selection
- Tone and 5-band EQ values
- Balance / pan setting
- Feature toggles such as Spatial 3D, Night Filter, Comfort Filter, Dynamic EQ, Vocal Focus, Phantom Sub-Bass, Peak Limiter, Fade-In, Crossfeed, and Exciter
- Interface preferences such as Advanced Settings visibility and Power Off mode
- Per-tab configuration saved for tabs where you use the extension
What we do not store: audio recordings, browsing history, account information, personal identifiers, analytics events, or crash telemetry.
4. How Audio Is Handled
- When you enable processing, the extension captures audio from the current tab.
- The audio is processed locally through the browser's Web Audio API.
- The processed signal is played back through your device speakers or headphones.
- When Power Off is used while a tab is already being processed, capture may stay active in pass-through mode so the tab's normal audio can continue without being muted. In pass-through mode, no effects are applied and no audio data is recorded, stored, uploaded, or persisted.
5. Data Sharing
We do not:
- Send data to external servers
- Use analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising SDKs
- Share settings or audio data with third parties
- Sell or monetize personal data
6. Your Control
- You can change or reset settings directly in the extension UI.
- You can stop effects at any time by turning the extension off. If pass-through capture remains active for uninterrupted playback, closing the tab, ending playback, or disabling/uninstalling the extension stops that capture session.
- You can remove stored settings by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data in Chrome.
7. Security
Because settings stay in your local Chrome profile and audio is processed on-device, there is no central database of your extension activity. We recommend keeping Chrome and your operating system updated.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated to reflect the new version.
